2020 was a strange year, one in which screens became a necessary evil to live experiences, to talk with the family, attend gigs or watch films. The incursion of screens in our everyday life has gone even deeper, shaping the way we look at the world and the way we understand human interaction.
Our first programme of the year is a brilliant selection of films reflecting on our relationship with screens.
How has the presence of phones, screens and apps changed the way we look at the world around us, the way we inhabit the public space, the way we meet and relate to each other? A programme of films rethinking the way human behaviour has changed since the appearance of mobile phones and the way new generations communicate through it. The selection includes Premios Goya 2021-nominated short films like A la Cara or Beef, as well as perspectives from Chile, China or Brazil,. Dark perspectives and unimagined positive takes on the proliferation of screens in our lives.

Lecture by Dr. Héctor Dante Cincotta for the Anglo-Argentine Society. Dr Cincotta will talk about the life and work of W H Hudson, with the focus being on two of his books: “Far Away and Long Ago” and “Idle Days in Patagonia”. Born in Argentina of American parents, W H Hudson was in his early 30s when he left to make his home in Britain. His early years living on the Pampas in Argentina form the backdrop of his writing. His many achievements include being one of the founder members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. W H Hudson could now be called a true Anglo-Argentine: revered both in Britain, his adopted country, and in Argentina, the land of his birth that formed him as a writer and naturalist.
