Our work

Canning House produces a high-quality programme of events and publications. Discover how we work to promote Latin America and Iberia in the United Kingdom.

Driving high-level engagement with Latin America

Canning House convenes summits focusing on the relationship between the UK and Latin America's largest economies: Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. These gatherings provide a dedicated space to reflect upon the diplomatic, political, economic, and business landscape of the country.

One of the Summits takes place in the UK, and one is hosted in Latin America.

The Canning House LatAm Outlook was first launched in March 2020, offering a look ahead at the next 5 years and beyond across key trends in Latin America through the lens of the region's six largest economies - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. It is fully updated annually.

The Outlook now covers seven chapters: Latin America's place in the world, and its politics, economics, society, risk, environment and commerce.

Expert insights into Latin America

Canning House strives to produce quality research and insights into the region's biggest issues.

Throughout the year, we publish Canning Papers. These in-depth pieces investigate pressing political and economic trends in Latin America, as well as specific industries, commercial sectors, and emerging opportunities. The papers have covered topics as diverse as election analysis, corruption, renewable energy and private equity in Latin America.

To supplement our research, Canning House's blog provides short-form explainers on developments in Latin America. The topics of our blog posts range from Mexico's digital markets, to biodiversity in Brazil, and US border policy.

The UK-Brazil Conversa is an annual forum for dialogue between policymakers and influencers, business leaders, academics, diplomats and governments, to help build closer relations and contacts between Brazil and the UK. It was founded in 2014 by former UK Ambassador to Brazil, Alan Charlton.

Alternating between the UK and Brazil, the Conversa was established to help explore how to make more of the contacts and links between the two countries. In order to encourage free-flowing and open conversations, discussion groups are small and sessions are held in closed conditions.

Conversa is a non-profit venture funded by sponsors. It is supported by the Brazilian and British governments, with Canning House acting as Secretariat. Participation is by invitation only.
