Investors look to Uruguay for green opportunities

Canning House, DIT and the City of London hold Roundtable with the President of Uruguay; Uruguayan Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, and Industry, Energy and Mining; and senior UK and multinational investors.

On Monday 23 May, during his first visit to the United Kingdom since beginning his presidency, and shortly following his Canning Lecture, Uruguay, a Reliable Gateway to South America – Opportunities in Green Finance, HE President Luis Lacalle Pou and his Ministerial delegation engaged in a VIP Roundtable with senior Investors, convened by Canning House, the Department for International Trade and the City of London.

Central to the discussion were opportunities for green finance and investment in Uruguay, building on the innovative approaches mentioned by the President and Minister Azucena Arbeleche in their Lecture and Address. The participating VIP Investors, drawn from sectors including finance, asset management, clean energy, and banking, took advantage of this unique opportunity to engage openly and directly with the President and his senior team on topics including green infrastructure and investment initiatives in Uruguay.

The President also emphasised Uruguay’s place in Mercosur as a focal point for investment in technology, with an eye always on ambitious sustainable development and environmental protection; as well as how the UK and Uruguay can work together to continue strengthening their close economic ties – all issues central to Canning House’s agenda.
