A Sustainable Future for Latin American Infrastructure

On Thursday 23 March, the Infrastructure: Building Latin American Sustainable Development conference was hosted by Canning House, in partnership with ERG International Group and Pi Makina, at The Dilly Hotel in London. The event brought together high-level professionals to discuss the region's sustainable development, particularly in transport and water infrastructure.

A Sustainable Future for Latin American Infrastructure

On Thursday 23 March, the Infrastructure: Building Latin American Sustainable Development conference took place at The Dilly Hotel in London, hosted by Canning House in partnership with ERG International Group and Pi Makina. The event aimed to bring together high-level professionals in the infrastructure sector to discuss the region's sustainable development, particularly in transport and water infrastructure.

Jeremy Browne, CEO of Canning House, and Murat Dedeoglu, CEO of ERG International Group, welcomed the audience and introduced the keynote speaker, Mark Menzies MP, the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. Mr Menzies MP highlighted the UK's past and present role in Latin America's infrastructural development and explored potential opportunities for collaboration in the region.

The first panel, Transport: The Road to Sustainable Development, addressed the importance of sustainable and targeted overland transport infrastructure development. Richard Threlfall, KPMG; Karin Dinucci, Mott MacDonald; Adrià Canals, Arup; and Paul Dyson, Crossrail International; emphasized the value of sustainability with urgency, international best practices, foreign investment, and knowledge sharing. Matthew Furlong, from ERG, chaired the session.

The second panel, Tapping into LAC's Water Potential, discussed the region's water and sanitation infrastructure and the blue economy. The panelists - Ian Jenkins, Charles Kendall Freight; Dirk Hoffmann, DP World; Uzi Sezer, ERG; Ernesto López, Peru's Ministry of Economy and Finance; and Alfredo Mordezki, Santander Asset Management - covered a range of topics, including the importance of re-establishing a predictable and reliable maritime supply chain post-pandemic, Latin America's water crisis, and Peru's infrastructure gap. The session was chaired by Marcial Echenique, an infrastructure expert and Trustee of Canning House.

The conference concluded with a networking reception, and Canning House, ERG International Group, and Pi Makina expressed their gratitude to all attendees, panellists, and speakers for their participation. The event provided valuable insights into Latin America's infrastructure challenges and opportunities for sustainable development.
