Odebrecht: The Story Of A Corruption Scandal [Canning Paper]

  • SCI Belgrave Square, 14/15 Belgrave Square, London

As the extent and scale of Brazilian construction group Odebrecht's bribery scheme has emerged over the past year, the resultant scandal has rocked the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean, and even touched countries further afield.

As the extent and scale of Brazilian construction group Odebrecht's bribery scheme has emerged over the past year, the resultant scandal has rocked the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean, and even touched countries further afield. The latest Canning Paper looks at the origins and unfolding of the web of bribes and corruption, examines in depth the macroeconomic and political repercussions in countries across the region, outlines the lessons to be learnt, and proposes possibilities for tackling institutionalised corruption going forward, at the level of government, civil society, and within corporations themselves.

The paper will be discussed by Andrew Thompson of Latin News, author of the report and Carla McRoberts, London Managing Director at Veracity Worldwide. Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, honorary vice-president of Canning House, will chair the event.
