Fascinating legacies and stories long waiting to be heard will be unearthed by our panel of experts, uncovering forgotten histories of the movement of people, business and culture between the UK and Latin America through an exploration of the tangible heritage that remains.

In addition to our panel of experts, our attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the conversation, sharing their own lesser-known stories of the relationship between the UK and Latin America.

Our panel

Chair:

Dr Charles Jones

Emeritus Reader in International Relations at Wolfson College, Cambridge, Dr Charles Jones will chair our Forgotten Histories panel and input his knowledge of Anglo-Argentine relations centered around British entrepreneurial business in the River Plate region and their legacy and heritage in the UK.

Speakers:

Dr Rory Miller

Canning House Trustee, and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool Management School, Dr Rory Miller will recount to us his extensive knowledge of the legacy of British entrepreneurs on the West Coast of Latin America.

Dr Carrie Gibson

Author of El Norte: The Epic and Forgotten Story of Hispanic North America and Empire's Crossroads: A History of the Caribbean from Columbus to the Present Day, Dr Carrie Gibson will recall fascinating stories of the Hispanophone Caribbean and its forgotten historical links with the UK.

Dr Graciela Iglesias-Rogers

Principal Investigator on the 'Hispanic-Anglosphere' project run by the University of Winchester, the AHRC and National Trust, Dr Graciela Iglesias-Rogers will offer her expertise on the tangible heritage that remains of historic UK-Latin American relations, and how it is being maintained so as to never be truly forgotten.
