Who's competing for power in 2022?
As electoral years go 2022 is set to be unusually quiet in Latin America. Those elections that are scheduled to take place, however, are likely to be loud and noisy affairs.
With over 42 dead and higher numbers listed as missing as a result of three weeks of protests and violence that have convulsed Colombia, both sides are now trying to initiate a dialogue. But a first meeting between President Iván Duque and the strike committee on 10 May did not go particularly well. Protest leaders argued that Duque lacked “empathy” for their demands.
