Update on human rights in Venezuela with Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro

  • Canning House

Canning House and the APPG for Venezuela invited Luis Almagro to give an update on human rights in Venezuela with Tamara Sujú.

In the wake of the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, the humanitarian situation in the country continues to deteriorate. A UN Report published in July details human rights violations including extrajudicial killings, human trafficking, torture, food scarcity and severe medicine shortages.

In light of this report, Canning House and the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Venezuela invited Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS) to speak with Dra. Tamara Sujú, a human rights lawyer, about what the international community might do to ameliorate the situation. The discussion was chaired by Baroness Hooper and Beatriz Araujo, Canning House Chair.

This event was kindly supported by The British Venezuelan Society & Chamber of Commerce and BancTrust & Co.
