The Year Ahead

A happy new year to all friends and colleagues of Canning House, old and new – and what a year it is shaping up to be!

Latin America – this great, enormous region of 650 million people – has a compelling claim to be one of the big answers to the multiple questions facing humanity in the twenty-first century. Our LatAm Outlook 2023, published in December, affirmed this, and I strongly recommend having a look at it.

In 2023 we have seen already the arrival of a new government in Brazil, and will later in the year observe with great interest general elections in Argentina, Guatemala and Paraguay.

Here at Canning House, 2023 is an important year for a number of reasons. It is, if for nothing else, our 80th: a milestone anniversary which we will mark in November.

We begin the year with a newly-launched and attractive Corporate Membership offer, with which we invite you and your organisation to join us in broadening and deepening the UK’s relationship with Latin America. You can learn more here, and contact us for more information.

Our wide-ranging and high-quality programme of events, ranging from conferences and networking to lectures and briefings on the region’s most important topics, moves from strength to strength, and we look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces – please do tell your friends!

With a range of expert perspectives, our frequent publications will continue to bring you exclusive insights on the latest news and key trends from across Latin America.

And, finally, I am delighted to say that Canning House’s office will soon be moving to new and improved premises, where we hope to welcome you warmly and regularly. Further details will be revealed in due course.

Britain can benefit from a much closer association with Latin America. It is our purpose at Canning House, in 2023 just as it has been since 1943, to persuade people that Latin America does not deserve to be overlooked, and should instead be a strong partner to Britain. I hope you will join us in that.
