The LatAm Outlook is full of opportunity

  • Freddy Nevison-Andrews

Latin America has a compelling claim to be one of the big answers to the multiple questions facing humanity in the twenty-first century. We hope our LatAm Outlook 2023 paints an honest, insightful and enticing picture, and thereby makes this case persuasively to you.

The LatAm Outlook is full of opportunity

Latin America is a region of great enterprise and innovation, extraordinary natural wealth, cultural and historical riches, and trade and political significance. It has global weight, home to 650 million people and $5.5 trillion of GDP, and boasting large reserves of key resources.

Despite this, the region has long been overlooked by Western powers, as the US, UK and Europe have preferred doing business with China and the emerging markets of Asia.

As Canning House and our partners present across seven chapters in the LatAm Outlook 2023, matched with presentations at our launch conference on 13 December, Latin America has a compelling claim to be one of the big answers to the multiple questions facing humanity in the twenty-first century.

Together with Control Risks, Itaú, the Department for International Trade, Ipsos, the Stockholm Environment Institute and Michael Stott, Latin America Editor at the Financial Times, we create a comprehensive portrait of contemporary Latin America, through thorough examination of the region’s place in the world, as well as its politics, economics, commercial opportunities, risks, and social and environmental trends.

Whether it is the 2023 domestic political scene; vital sectors for greater trading opportunities; prospects for and threats to economic prosperity; life at ground level for everyday Latin Americans, and mitigating the negative threats that may harm the region; innovative thinking and environmental consciousness; or lifting sights on the big, global picture, we seek to make the case for Latin America, in clear and compelling terms.

Canning House has an unapologetically evangelising purpose. We want to persuade people that Latin America does not deserve to be overlooked. That although it is imperfect in multiple ways, Latin America is a source too of amazing opportunity and life-affirming human progress, and that Britain will benefit from a much closer association.

We hope our LatAm Outlook 2023 paints an honest, insightful and enticing picture, and thereby makes this case persuasively to you.
