We are pleased to announce the next beneficiaries of the King's College London & Canning House Visiting Fellowship programme!

Our next Visiting Fellows

In 2019 Canning House and King’s College London launched a new Visiting Fellowship. The aim of the Fellowship is to provide an opportunity for Latin American academics to enrich their research using the extensive Canning House Library Collection, housed at King’s College London.

Our first Visiting Fellows, Dr Adriana Massidda and Professor Francesca Denegri, undertook fascinating research projects examining the transformation of low-income urban communities in Latin America, and the responses of Hispanic feminists to the British Suffragette movement.

We are now incredibly pleased to announce our next King’s College London & Canning House Visiting Fellows!

In January 2021, we will welcome Elissa Pereira dos Santos to London.

Elissa, a Doctoral student at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, will research how New Christian merchants - Jews who converted to Christianity to avoid the Inquisition - integrated into the 18th century economic and social hierarchies in Brazil and Portugal, using data mining techniques to track this change over time through the historic works of the Library collection.

In 2022, Roberto Georg Uebel will begin his research project.

Roberto, Professor of International Relations and Geopolitics at the Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing in Porto Alegre, will research the trilateral migration process between Brazil, Portugal and the UK in the 21st century, identifying and understanding migration flows between the three countries in the interwoven contexts of economic crises, political tensions and social change.

We greatly look forward to welcoming Elissa and Roberto, and to hearing about the fruits of their research projects.
