Leonardo Villar - Governor of the Central Bank of Colombia

  • Jeremy Browne

Canning House was delighted to welcome Leonardo Villar, the Governor of the Colombian Central Bank, for a roundtable presentation and discussion at our London offices.

The Governor provided an oversight of the performance of the Colombian economy. The economic growth forecast for 2026 - 2.9% - is higher than the Latin American average.

Unemployment is also low by Colombian historical norms. Inflation, however, which is targeted to be 3%, will be considerably higher, and the cost of Colombian public debt has also risen relative to comparable Latin American countries.

Questions to the Governor were wide-ranging, covering Colombian monetary and fiscal development, the Colombian presidential election in 2026, and international external influence on the Colombian economy.

Canning House is grateful to Governor Villar for his insights, and to the highly international audience for their interest and perceptive contributions.
