HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh in Latin America

Canning House was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh on 9 April 2021. We offer our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.

May he rest in peace. Que en paz descanse.

His Royal Highness visited Latin America on a number of occasions throughout his distinguished royal service, both alongside Queen Elizabeth II and on his own official tour. In 1962, on his solo official tour of South America, Prince Philip visited eleven countries: British Guiana (now Guyana), Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.

His other official trips to Latin America have included accompanying HM the Queen on state visits to Panama (1953), Brazil (1968), Chile (1968) and Mexico (1975, 1983).

With these visits, Prince Philip played an important role in the building of UK-Latin American relationships and understanding. He will be remembered with great affection and admiration in Latin America, and around the world.
