In 2023, Canning House has continued on its unique mission to build understanding and relationships between the United Kingdom and Latin America and Iberia.

Here, we take a look back at the year, as the organisation has continued to go from strength to strength in its dynamic programme.

Canning House was delighted to welcome nearly 3,000 distinguished guests this year.

Across our programme of events, covering topics including infrastructure, finance, technology, renewable energy, mining, agribusiness, elections and all things Latin America, we held a huge variety of conferences, seminars, briefings, lectures and other events in 2023. For summaries of many of these events, and other news from Canning House, visit our News section.

At those events, we heard from over 100 expert speakers...

...including FT Latin America editor Michael Stott (pictured), Revolut chair Martin Gilbert, Chilean Mining Minister Aurora Williams, British Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero Lord Callanan, Rio de Janeiro governor Cláudio Castro, leading academic on Argentina David Rock, Shadow Minister for Latin American and the Caribbean Anna McMorrin MP, and many others.

Amongst those events were 10 exclusive roundtables...

... welcoming figures including Sonia Guajajara (pictured, left), Brazil's Minister for Indigenous Peoples; Michael Reid (pictured, right), veteran writer and journalist on Latin America and Iberia; and Graham Zebedee, the UK's chief negotiator in its bid to join the CPTPP. These have included business and ambassadorial breakfast briefings, and evening book launch seminars.

We also published 16 insightful blog posts...

... from guest contributors, including senior academics, journalists and analysts, covering the latest breaking news from Latin America and Iberia with astute, timely analysis. Read our blog.

Also in our packed programme was the 8th annual edition of the UK-Brazil Conversa.

This time held at the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government, the Conversa featured Rt Hon Sir Alok Sharma KCMG MP and a wide variety of senior, international academics, professionals and politicians from the UK, Brazil and beyond.

Keep an eye on our upcoming events section, where news about the UK-Brazil Conversa 2024, and the rest of our programme for next year, will be arriving soon.

Perhaps you have heard... Canning House turned 80 in 2023!

Eight decades on from the 9 November 1943, Canning House continues on its founding mission. It was a milestone for celebration, and reflection, marked with a reception at the Royal Institute of British Architects on 20 November.

That event featured a keynote speech by David Rutley MP, Minister for Americas and Caribbean; Nick McCall, Chairman of Canning House; Baroness Hooper, Honorary Vice President of Canning House; and Jeremy Browne, our CEO. See their speeches in full here.

As we moved into our ninth decade, it was time for a new look...

This year, Canning House rolled out a new logo, reflecting the organisation's bold, forward-thinking approach to building UK-Latin American understanding and relationships, in its most significant brand refreshment in over 20 years.

Canning House also moved into a brand new, custom-fitted office space at 50 Broadway, London SW1H 0BL.

The bright, modern office space, featuring an in-house events space that has already played host to many of the eminent figures mentioned above, sits in the heart of Westminster; just a short walk from the Houses of Parliament, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and other key government departments.

None of Canning House's work would be possible without our Corporate Members and other partners.

This year, Canning House has been delighted to welcome six new Corporate Members: Glencore, Haleon, Diageo, ERG International, BancTrust & Co. and PromPeru. Learn more about Corporate Membership here.

We have also been pleased to partner with organisations including JP Morgan, Google, the London Stock Exchange Group and the British Council.

Finally, at Canning House's last event of the year, we launched the LatAm Outlook 2024.

Our flagship annual report looks ahead at Latin America's global, political, economic, social, environmental, risk and commercial outlooks over the next five years and beyond. Produced in partnership with Itaú, Ipsos, Control Risks, the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Department for Business and Trade and International Crisis Group.

It offers everything you need to know about Latin America, in one place.

You can read the full report now, on our website here.

We hope you will join us, whether again or for the first time, in 2024.

Thank you - Gracias - Obrigado
