Webinar: Update on Bolivia

  • Online
  • 15:30 - 16:00

Canning House and LatinNews discuss developments in Bolivia following President Evo Morales' resignation.

Following on from last week’s webinar, Canning House and LatinNews will give an update on the situation in Bolivia.

On 10 November, Evo Morales stepped down as president of Bolivia, following weeks of protests over disputed election results. Morales' resignation came after calls by Bolivian armed forces for him to step down, and an audit by the OAS which identified irregularities in the October 20 vote. Morales has since accepted political asylum in Mexico, and Bolivian opposition senator Jeanine Áñez has declared herself interim president.

Sarah Sheldon, Editor at LatinNews, will give an overview of this fast-developing situation, focusing in particular on the internal politics that triggered these developments, and looking ahead to what’s next for Bolivia. Ian Perrin, Head of Policy, Research & Operations, will chair this discussion.
