Jonathan Wilson will join Canning House to discuss his latest book, The Power and the Glory, which details the history of the football World Cup.

BOOK DISCUSSION

Jonathan Wilson will be joining Canning House to discuss his latest book, The Power and the Glory. This new book provides a comprehensive history of the football World Cup, the most-watched sporting event on the planet.

The book details the story of the tournament from its origins in Uruguay and the inaugural final between the hosts and Argentina, to the modern editions in Russia and Qatar. The author will reflect upon the crucial Latin American dimension of the competition: Uruguay was the inaugural host, Argentina is the current champion, and South America is one of only two continents to produce a winning team. This event will discuss the importance of football in Latin America and the enduring power of the World Cup.

Jonathan Wilson is a sports journalist who predominantly writes for The Guardian, covering football. He is also the author of the book Inverting the Pyramid, a history of football tactics.
