Current polling suggests three frontrunners in the presidential race: Rixi Moncada of the governing Libre party, Salvador Nasralla representing the Liberals, and Nasry “Tito” Asfura of the National Party.

The Speakers

Martin Garrett is a Research Analyst in the Americas Research Group at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, where he covers the countries of the Caribbean and Central America. He has been a Research Analyst since 2012. Before that, he spent many years as a mainstream diplomat, working in a wide variety of roles, including in Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia, as well as in London. He also teaches diplomacy, mainly at London Metropolitan University.

Esther's fraud investigation career started with Network Security Management Ltd in 1995, in 1998, she became Head of Research at fraud investigation specialist Maxima. In 2000 she was one of the founding members of Diligence International LLC where she spent several years as Research Director. In 2017 she joined forces with Russell Corn to launch Fulcrum Diligence, a provider of risk advisory services based in the UK and Brazil.

Blanca Blanco Abellan is a Project Manager in the Latin America and the Caribbean Office, Panama City. Blanca joined International IDEA in October 2024. She is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of a capacity-building initiative aimed at supporting civil society organizations (CSOs) and media across the Central American region, including El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Prior to joining IDEA, Blanca worked with the Irish NGO Trócaire for over 20 years.

Valeria is an Associate Director on Control Risks’ Global Risk Analysis team based in Mexico City. As part of her role, Valeria provides political, operational, social and security risk analysis on Central America. She produces regular updates for Control Risks’ online subscription services, as well as bespoke consultancy projects for clients with footprints in Central America. Before joining Control Risks, Valeria worked as a freelance political and economic risk analyst, where she focused on research and analysis of political issues in Latin America and Central America.
