Panel Discussion
Canning House will be hosting an in-person panel discussion ahead of the second round runoff of the Brazilian Presidential Election. Following the first round on 4 October, incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro advanced to the runoff after neither candidate secured the majority required for an outright victory. Flávio Bolsonaro narrowly led the first-round vote, setting up a closely contested second-round election on 25 October.
This panel will discuss the key themes shaping the runoff campaign, including Lula’s bid for a fourth term, the continued influence of the Bolsonaro political movement, Brazil’s economic outlook, and the wider international implications of the result. Our expert panellists will examine what a victory for either candidate could mean for Brazil’s political direction, economic priorities, and global partnerships, as well as the key challenges facing the country in the years ahead. The panel discussion and audience Q&A will last for one hour and a quarter.
