The Brazilian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, HE Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will join Canning House to discuss his latest book: A Humanist Foreign Policy for a Multipolar World.
In this book, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil sets out his diplomatic theory and the principles that have guided his career: the defence of dialogue, multilateralism, the pursuit of peace, and respect for human dignity.
This event will offer an opportunity to hear from the Ambassador about his distinguished diplomatic career and understand his theory of multilateral foreign policy against the backdrop of a rapidly changing global order.
About the Speaker
Antonio de Aguiar Patriota was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2023.
Previously, he was the Ambassador of Brazil to Egypt, Italy, Malta, and was the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations. He served as Foreign Minister, Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the United States.
During his period as Ambassador to the UN, he was Chairman of the 60th and 61st Sessions of the Commission on the Status of Women and Chairman of the Peacebuilding Commission of the UN.
Ambassador Patriota is a member of the “Leaders for Peace” initiative under the chairmanship of former French Prime Minister Raffarin. He has also been, since 2018, a member of the jury of the "Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment".
